Translation and language settings

If your store uses a language other than English these tips may be helpful

The Filter Menu has options for setting the text or language used in the app. These can be found in the Filter Menu admin, filter group and filter titles can also be changed in the app admin.

Edit Locales

In the Filter Menu admin, near the top of the page, click on the "More Actions" drop-down, then select "Edit Locales"

In the pop-up you can edit the text for various sections in the Filter Menu:

Change filter group or filter titles

To change the title of a filter group or individual filters you can click on them in the app admin to change the text.

For filter groups, click on the filter group title

For an individual filter, click on the filter to change its title. Note that this will also change the collection title for the collection associated with the filter.

Translation apps

There are many translation apps available on the Shopify app store. Some of the apps that we have found to work well with the Filter Menu are:

Other translation apps may also work well with the Filter Menu, but we have not tested them all. One thing to make sure of is that your translation app is not set up to translate the 'pt-filter-menu' meta fields, as these meta fields need to match the tags on the products.

One other point to note - we have found that when using Shopify's Translate & Adapt app - the app can translate your theme settings. Other apps may also include this feature. Some of the Filter Menu theme settings use CSS or Javascript selectors and when these are translated those settings may not work properly as the selectors need to match the original theme's design (usually in English). If you're using Shopify's Translate & Adapt app and notice any problems with the AJAX, Sticky mode, or any other theme settings for the Filter Menu, please reach out to our friendly support team for assistance.
