Shopify Power Tools has a number of ways to handle sold out products that ensure you users have the best experience and your search engine optimization is handled correctly.
Hiding Sold Out Items
Using this feature you can automatically hide sold out items from your store. You can also set the app to unhide any items that were previously hidden but have since come back into stock.
You can set the app to hide sold out products on all sales channels, or only the Online Store sales channel. Hiding on all channels works by archiving the sold out products.
The reason that we archive products when hiding on all sales channels is because Shopify doesn't allow apps to access sales channels other than the Online Store, so archiving products effectively hides them on all channels. If you'd rather not have the products archived, we recommend using the "Hide only from Online Store channel" option.
Redirect for Sold Out items
You also have the option to create a redirect to a page of your choosing, which is useful for SEO and your customers.
Removing From Collections
This feature allows you to simply remove the sold-out products from any custom collections. This only works for custom collections, these are collections that have products manually added.
This feature is potentially dangerous, and consideration should be made if you actually want this behavior. It will permanently delete the product from all custom collections after the last sale, which cannot be undone other than to re-add the product to each collection manually.
Move to end
If you have a manual or trending sort order collection you can use this feature to move the sold-out products to the end of the collection. This ensures they are not easily seen by customers or as readily indexed by search engines.
This feature can only work with manual or trending sort orders as any other sort order will override the moved products.
Delete Variant
This feature will automatically delete a variant once its inventory level is less than 1 and it is no longer available to be purchased by the customer.
The last variant will not be deleted, even if it is out of stock - you can use Power Tools other features for handling sold out products.
This feature is particularly useful for managing smart collections that have rules based on variants, or the Power Tools Filter Menu. By deleting old variants smart collection rules will no longer match and likewise, the auto-tagging feature of the Filter Menu will no longer show out of stock options.
For example, if you have a variant with the title 'Red', the product will no longer match collection rules for "Variant title equals 'Red'" once it is sold out.
This feature is potentially dangerous, and consideration should be made if you actually want this behavior. It will permanently delete the variant after the last sale, which cannot be undone other than to re-add the variant.
Third-Party Inventory systems
If you are using a third-party inventory system, such as Amazon Marketplace, you can enable the app to work with these systems.
Hide Empty Collections
You can use this feature to hide collections with no products in them, you can also set it to publish collections that are no longer empty, and also check for product published status, this means that a collection with no visible products will be hidden. This feature is only recommended for smaller stores.
Unhide All
You can unhide all products that Power Tools has hidden by clicking this button.
